Longtime Team Penske sponsor PPG Industries has chosen to extend its association with the championship-winning Verizon IndyCar Series team.
PPG, entering its 34th year of partnership with Team Penske in 2017, will serve as the primary sponsor of a single car for four races and an associate sponsor for the entire team throughout the season.
The new multi-year agreement also expands PPG’s role in the team’s NASCAR operation.
“As one of the Team Penske’s longest and most trusted partners for more than 30 years, PPG has been a big part of our success both on and off the track,” said team owner Roger Penske. “Our teams continue to win with PPG and we look forward to building on the success together with our NASCAR and INDYCAR programs in the future.”
A staple of Team Penske’s rotating group of primary sponsors, Simon Pagenaud piloted a PPG-liveried Indy car into victory lane three times in 2016 en route to the series championship.
“We have a very special relationship with Team Penske,” said PPG vice president of global automotive refinish John Outcalt. “We’ve worked together successfully for years and are proud to be a part of the team’s winning tradition.
“By extending our partnership into the future, we’re ensuring mutual support for years to come. PPG and Team Penske are in it for the long run.”
The longstanding partnership between one of IndyCar’s top teams and a leader in the automotive refinish industry began in 1983. Growing out of the PPG’s sponsorship of CART from 1979 to 1999, the company’s relationship with the team has deepened over the years, extending beyond racing into other Penske Corporation businesses.
Team Penske’s four-car team of Pagenaud, Josef Newgarden, Helio Castroneves and Will Power will take to the streets of St. Petersburg on March 10–12, 2017 for the start of IndyCar’s 17-race season.
