The new cars and imminent storylines of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season will again be covered on FOX’s collection of networks with the series’ 2017 television schedule featuring improvements over last year’s.

Every lap of the 12-race season will be shown on the FOX Sports GO app while both the first three hours of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the entire 100-minute BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach will be televised live on the flagship FOX Network channel.

“We worked closely with our partners at FOX Sports to build an extremely strong schedule for WeatherTech Championship telecasts in 2017,” said David Pettit, IMSA’s vice president of marketing.

“Together, we were able to reimagine our television schedule to expand our presence on the FOX Network, reduce the number of channel changes during our Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup events and utilize the FOX Sports GO platform to provide a consistent platform for our most loyal race fans.”

FS1 to Carry Main Action

The year’s coverage opened with the three-hour window on FOX Network at Daytona as the season began on Saturday, Jan. 28. FOX Sports 1 and 2 televised the remainder of the event with the exception of a single hour late Saturday evening. That hour was exclusively shown on the FOX Sports GO app, which had 25 consecutive hours of Rolex 24 programming itself.

As the follow-up round to the Rolex 24, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 18 will be shown on FS1 beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT and continuing through to the race’s conclusion. Coverage of the Sebring race was originally scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. despite the green flag being scheduled for 10:40 a.m. The broadcast window was moved forward in an update to IMSA’s 2017 TV schedule in February.

FS1 will have 32 total hours of WeatherTech Championship coverage this year, inclusive of the 10.5-hour block of live Sebring coverage. The races at Circuit of The Americas, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Road America, VIRginia International Raceway and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be shown in full on FS1.

The Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown on May 6 at COTA was initially scheduled to be broadcast live on FS2 but will instead be shown on a same-day delay on FS1. The series’ trip north of the border to CTMP has been promoted from a same-day delay to live on FS1 on July 9.

34.5 Hours Scheduled on FS2

Before February’s update to the 2017 TV schedule, FS2 was slated to carry 10 more hours of coverage than FS1 throughout the season. That number has been decreased to just 2.5 more hours on FS2, with 34.5 hours of live WeatherTech Championship coverage scheduled on FS2 for 2017.

A five-hour window on Saturday evening at Daytona kicked off FS2’s coverage in 2017 before it returned with the action from 11 p.m. on Saturday all the way through the night hours to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The events at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park and Lime Rock Park are the only two that will be shown in full on FS2 this year.

“We’ve more than doubled the number of hours of live FOX Network coverage over 2016, and are offering more live television coverage of the Rolex 24 at Daytona than we have at any time in recent history,” Pettit added.

“In total, it’s a fantastic package to offer our fans and partners.”
