Five months after the secretive Acura ARX-05 was unveiled, Team Penske has shown off the liveries it will run on the cars throughout 2018.
The Nos. 6 and 7 Acura DPi cars will hit the track sporting nearly identical color schemes, with the only differentiators being inverted colors on their noses and fins. White is the most dominant color of the design, especially on the No. 6 which features a white nose and white fin with black Acura Team Penske branding.
Roger Penske himself offered input to Acura Global Creative Director Dave Marek on how to use color to visually divide elements at the front of the car. The color chosen was DayGlo Orange, the signature color of Acura Motorsports.
Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya will drive the No. 6 car for the full season and will be joined by 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series champion Simon Pagenaud at the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup rounds. Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor will share the No. 7, with Graham Rahal coming aboard for the endurance races.
The Acura ARX-05 and its six drivers will face 18 other Prototype entries during the Rolex 24 at Daytona weekend, set for Jan. 25–28, 2018. The event will mark Penske’s first in top-level sports car racing since 2009.
