Zachary Claman De Melo will be back in Dale Coyne Racing’s No. 19 Honda for the third consecutive race as he fills in for Pietro Fittipaldi during this weekend’s INDYCAR Grand Prix.
The race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course was to be Fittipaldi’s second Verizon IndyCar Series start following his debut at Phoenix’s ISM Raceway, but the Brazilian driver has been sidelined following a heavy crash during qualifying for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps that led to a broken left leg and right ankle.
Canada’s Claman De Melo debuted in the Coyne entry on the streets of St. Petersburg in March and has since raced in the last two rounds, held at Long Beach and Barber Motorsports Park.
A second-place result last year at the IMS road course was Claman De Melo’s best at the track across four years visiting it in Indy Lights.
The 85-lap race will go green at 3:50 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
