Performance Tech Motorsports has elected to skip this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round on Detroit’s Belle Isle in an effort to be as efficient as possible with their budget and time.

Instead of pedaling the team’s ORECA 07 between the concrete barriers of the Raceway at Belle Isle Park, drivers James French and Kyle Masson will instead focus on testing to prepare for the upcoming Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

After contesting the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio earlier this month where the WeatherTech Championship was the headlining series, Performance Tech’s team principal Brent O’Neill knows that taking the backseat to the Verizon IndyCar Series in Detroit would mean limited time on track for his team.

“Being that Detroit is a street course and a non-IMSA weekend, it just doesn’t get us the quality track time we are wanting right now,” O’Neill said.

“I spoke with Kyle and James and they agreed we could make better use of our time if we spent the budget on testing and prepared for Watkins Glen.”

The Detroit event is scheduled for June 1–2, while the series’ annual visit to Watkins Glen International will follow on June 28 to July 1.
