Indianapolis Motor Speedway
May 27, 2018
With Alexander Rossi’s triumph at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2016 and Takuma Sato’s storied win in 2017 in the history books, the stage is set for another edition of the Verizon IndyCar Series’ most celebrated contest.
After completing countless hours of practice and overcoming inexplicable stress during qualifying, a field of 33 will take the green flag in front of about 300,000 fans in Speedway, Indiana and millions more around the world. Once 200 laps are completed, one driver will drink the milk and spend the year as the Indianapolis 500 champion.
Reigning IndyCar champion Josef Newgarden enters the Indy 500 as the winner of the last two oval races, dating back to last year’s Gateway Motorsports Park visit.
While he attempts to extend this streak, Newgarden’s Team Penske stablemate Helio Castroneves will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and aim once again to join A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears in the rare group of four-time Indy 500 winners.
Shortly after the checkered flag, post-race information will occupy this page.
