Missing out on the Honda Indy Toronto pole in Saturday’s Firestone Fast 6 didn’t dissuade Scott Dixon from showing qualifying pace in morning warm-up with the series points leader easily setting the fast lap of the session.

After a brief delay for track cleanup due to the immediately preceding Mazda Road to Indy session, the session went green and was topped by pole winner Josef Newgarden with nine minutes to go just before Dixon executed a 59.1394-second lap to take over the top spot which he held through to the checkered flag.
Newgarden finished the session 0.2290 seconds in arrears of Dixon while a pair of Andretti Autosport drivers occupied the next two positions on the timesheet with Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti third and fourth fastest, respectively.
Graham Rahal completed the top five in his Honda, giving the Japanese brand four cars in the group. Ed Jones, Conor Daly, Takuma Sato, Simon Pagenaud and Tony Kanaan rounded out the top 10.
The 30-minute session was slowed by two red flags. Ed Carpenter Racing’s Jordan King contacted the wall in Turn 8, bringing a halt to warm-up near the halfway point. At the checkers, Tony Kanaan spun his car and came to a stop at Turn 8.
Next up for the 23-car field is the 85-lap race itself, set to go green Sunday on the streets around Toronto’s Exhibition Place at 3:42 p.m. EDT with live coverage on NBCSN.
