The first day of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekend at Road America culminated in the sanctioning body’s annual “State of the Series” event, featuring the release of the 2019 schedule.

Building on the success of the current season’s lineup of venues, the 2019 season will feature the same 12 events at the same tracks with 10 races falling on the same weekend.

With the introduction of a four-class format, the DPi and LMP2 classes will compete in 10 of the 12 events while GT Le Mans and GT Daytona will each have 11-race seasons.

Eight race weekends will feature all four classes, including the four Michelin Endurance Cup events at Daytona International Speedway, Sebring International Raceway, Watkins Glen International and Road Atlanta. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course plus Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Road America and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will also see all classes in action albeit in a shorter two-hour, 40-minute format.

Similar to 2018, the two 100-minute street races will have three classes in attendance with DPi, LMP2 and GTLM on hand in Long Beach. For the Raceway at Belle Isle Park round, GTD teams that elect to participate in the new WeatherTech Sprint Cup season within the season will race alongside the duo of prototype classes.

Two GT-only races will also be back on the schedule with both GTLM and GTD running at Lime Rock Park and VIRginia International Raceway.

NBC Sports will be IMSA’s exclusive television partner in 2018 with races airing on a combination of NBC, NBCSN and CNBC. All races will also be available through the NBC Sports app.

As in previous years, the 2019 season will kick off with the Roar Before the Rolex 24, a three-day test at Daytona scheduled for Jan. 4–6.
